How to find a lost file on your computer
Cannot find a document on your PC? Follow these simple steps to locate a lost file, even when you do not remember its name.
Start with what you remember
Write down the file type, a phrase inside it, a company, a date or an amount. A search such as “EDF invoice February” is often more useful than guessing the filename.
Check the usual folders
Look in Documents, Desktop and Downloads. You can also search File Explorer by a distinctive word, date or file extension.
Search inside documents
A useful document may have a meaningless name such as SCAN_2840318_001.pdf. Retrio indexes readable content locally so you can find it with the words it contains.
Keep it easy to find
Once found, open its folder and move it to a clear location if needed.
